My career so far in web design, print design and various
other forms of media
About 16 years ago I started out my career
thinking I would be a traditional print designer. This lasted
1 year. It was then after moving to London that I discovered
computers. Large computers - called Dicomed D80s and you could
only fit 5 or 6 in a large studio, but they were computers
no less. Creating corporate presentations with these was my
first ever design job. It wasnt long before PCs started appearing.
The ones we got hold of I think, were called 286s and they
were slow and only had 256 colours but they were brilliant.
People like me couldnt get enough of them. And they got faster
and faster and cheaper and it opened out massive possibilites
for the work I was producing around this time, which was mainly
flat and 2 dimensional.
I learnt 3DStudio, Authorware, Director, Flash
(v1) and tons of other stuff that could take advantage of
the increased power of computers.
After a number of years I was itching to work
for myself and started up and ran 2 web site design companies
over a 7 or 8 year period, both in London. I then moved on
to become a consultant for my own clients for about 2 years
before eventually deciding to move abroad for some new challenges.
Below is a rough outline of the last 10 years or so.
2002 - 2005 |
Menorca
I took a year out in Menorca from
work to enjoy some time with my family. Whilst living
in Menorca my partner gave birth to our beautiful daughter
and we spent a lot of time just relaxing. During this
time I also acquired new skills after spending a lot
of time re-searching search engine optimisation techniques.
This has opened up many new avenues and opportunities
for me and completely compliments my web site work.

UK
2000 - 2002: Private Consultant
During this time I became more of
a consultant acting for private clients and projects.
This is when I first began developing the City Disputes
Panel web site. I also worked with the ISMA (International
Markets Association) and produced quite a large flash
project that is still on-line today.
1996 - 2000: Creative Director, thinc digital
This was a company I and 2 others
started with a single PC and virtually no money. Over
3 years it grew to 25 people with a 2 million turnover.
As Creative Director my job was to develop the initial
client concepts and also manage the design and production
team. We worked for a lot of great names including Egg,
Hewlett Packard, Ogilvy and Mather, Sun Life and many
more.
